Green MSD seeks to equip development practitioners with the tools to mainstream environmental concerns in their programming, while helping conservation practitioners to design systemic solutions to market-based environmental problems.
Version 1.0 of the guidelines focuses on the design of Green MSD interventions, including step-by-step guidance on the analysis of the relationship between markets and natural systems, and the corresponding design of systemic strategies that balance people, climate, and nature goals. We highlight the practical implications for conservation and development practitioners using examples from the honey, coffee and energy sectors.
The guidelines were developed with the support of the Canopy Lab and USAID in collaboration with the Conservation Measures Partnership – home of the Conservation Standards, the foremost project cycle guidelines in the conservation field.
